This week 4-27-11, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes events were held in Clear Lake and Mason City. Sponsored locally by the North Iowa Domestic and Sexual Abuse Community Coalition men walked around parks in both cities wearing women's shoes. Coalition officials say the goal of the events is to raise awareness about the problem of domestic and sexual abuse and to inform the public that services are available to help those in need. About 20 people took part in the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event in Clear Lake while up to 50 people took part in the event at Mason City. One in six women in the U-S have been victims of sexual assault and a person is raped every two minutes in this country.
