GRUNDY SENIOR TO JOIN DORDT V-BALL TEAM
Grundy Center senior Meghan Krausman's prep volleyball resume is a lengthy one, and that resume has earned her a spot on a college roster. Krausman has signed on to continue her career with Dordt College, an NAIA school in Sioux Center, Iowa. Her list of honors with the Spartan program includes three all-district volleyball picks by the Iowa Girls' Coaches Association, four first-team all-conference selections in the NICL West, and two trips to the Class 2A state semifinals. Krausman was also named second-team all-state in 2011, helping Grundy Center to a 42-2 finish.
The Dordt Defenders are members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, which includes 11 schools in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. The Defenders finished 16-17 this past season under first-year coach Chad Hanson.
Krausman is the daughter of Larry and Jill Krausman of Grundy Center, and plans to study elementary and physical education while at Dordt.

D-T WINS SIXTH STRAIGHT NICL TITLE
The Denver-Tripoli Titans took home three championships and placed four more in the championship matches at Saturday's NICL wrestling meet in LeGrand, holding off Union for its sixth straight team title at the meet. The Knights had eight placewinners on the day, with four champions and no placewinners lower than third. West Marshall and East Marshall/GMG rounded out the top four.
Aplington-Parkersburg topped the local scorecard, with three wrestlers in the championship matches. Alexander Cutshall took home a title at 220 pounds, with 113-pound freshman Lincoln Thompson and 285-pounder Brandon McCracken taking second. A-P finished fifth, while Dike-New Hartford finished seventh with seven placewinners.
AGWSR, BCLUW/South Hardin and GRNT finished in the bottom three at the meet. All 13 NICL teams will get set for sectionals, which are set for Saturday at noon.
S. HARDIN GIRLS FALL TO 6-12
The South Hardin girls' basketball team dropped to 6-12 on the season with a 68-39 loss to South Hamilton Saturday night in the Tigers' final non-conference test of the regular season. The Hawks broke away in the second quarter, outscoring South Hardin 22-6 going into the locker room. Three regular-season games remain, with all three against the best in the NICL West.
"The nice thing is, going into [regionals], you usually want to get some wins and build some confidence, but we're looking at, once we start [regionals] we're going to have a good team in A-P. We're looking at these games to try and work on our skills, see what we need to work on in practice, and really hone in on the last game of the season," says Tiger head coach Matt Thompson. "It's almost the start of the season, because all of these games do count, but once you get to that regional game, it's win-or-go-home. We're definitely going to focus on that one, just to make sure we can get everything we can accomplished and get prepared for that game."
The first of those three games is set for Tuesday night, as South Hardin closes out the home season against a rival Grundy Center team that ranks third in the conference standings. Second-place West Marshall will host the Tigers on Friday night as well, and Thompson says his team will be looking to correct a few flaws from their first meetings with the Spartans and the Trojans.
"Grundy Center is not going to be an easy matchup," says Thompson. "It's our Parents Night, and the girls never want to do badly on Parents Night. We're definitely going to change a lot of the stuff that we did the last time we played Grundy Center, and going to West Marshall is always a difficult thing. We're going to try to play some good defense and hopefully keep them off the board."
Tuesday night's game against Grundy Center tips off at 6:15 p.m. in Eldora.
CARTER GIVES A&M WOMEN 66-64 WIN
Sydney Carter made two free throws with 2.4 seconds left to lift No. 14 Texas A&M to a 66-64 win over Iowa State on Sunday. Iowa State's desperation heave down the court as time expired was grabbed by A&M's Kelsey Bone. The Cyclones' possession before Carter's free throws ended when Nikki Moody, apparently thinking the game clock was the shot clock, didn't try to get a shot off as the shot clock expired with 7.3 seconds remaining.
Carter went 0 for 4 on Sunday and her only points came on the late free throws. Adaora Elonu had 19 points and Tyra White added 14 for Texas A&M (14-5, 5-3 Big 12). The Cyclones (11-8, 2-6) were led by Aplington native Chelsea Poppens, who had 22 points and nine rebounds. Hallie Christofferson had 13 points and six rebounds, and says the outcome was still a major turnaround from a 26-point loss to the Aggies just two weeks ago.
"I think we had to match their competitiveness, and we did that in the first half and the second half," says Christofferson. "They just made the plays at the right times and we just did not come out like we should have. We played a lot better than we played them the first time."
The game was the final ISU trip to College Station in Big 12 conference play. Up next is a Wednesday night home game against Oklahoma State. Tip-off at Hilton Coliseum is set for 7 p.m.
