DUANE CARSTENS
Sales Manager
Duane Carstens has been with KLMJ & KQCR since 1994. He is the current Advertising Sales Manager and is also a past sports director at the radio stations.
He's a graduate of Brown Institute in Minneapolis and a native of Blairsburg, Iowa.
He was a DJ in Wabasha, MN and Rockwell City, IA then Sports Director/DJ in Ottumwa, IA prior to coming to Hampton.
While in Ottumwa, Duane met his wife Karen while visiting Northern Iowa for his brother's wedding. The wedding dance was over and he decided to go with his cousin to a Valentine's Dance at the William's, IA Gym Community Center.
Duane went up to Karen (a teacher of Duane's sisters) and he said, "I bet you don't even know who I am." She actually said she did know who he was and she accepted his invitation to dance. They swayed back and forth to "Stairway to Heaven" and the rest is history. They were married in 1995.
In 2003...Duane & Karen adopted their daughter, Stephanie. Being a six-year-old at the time, she really changed the couples lives. Duane likes playing games, swimming, fishing and reading with Steph.
Besides his family, he also has a passion for creative writing in some of the commercials you hear on the radio. He also enjoys continuing to help out with local sports coverage. He is Deacon at Zion Reformed Church, a member of Hampton Kiwanis Club.
In his free time this year...he hopes to get boxes unpacked from a recent move, fix and ride his motorcycle, sing in his church quartet and and do more golfing.
